The road up and down Mount Nebo has extreme switchbacks to negotiate. No trailers over 24' are allowed to use this road. However, those who are able to use the road will find the drive worth the effort. The only way to grasp the beauty of Mount Nebo is to look out over Lake Dardanelle at the Russellville nuclear plant with its cooling tower, which you can see from the Visitor Center and drive to the Sunrise and Sunset Points and take in the valley views. There is a hiking trail around the rim of the bluffs for those who want to enjoy the scenic views. Below is a short video with some of these scenes.

There is a campground area for those who can negotiate the switchbacks up the mountain road and a playground area for those who want to enjoy that activity. If you have a big rig or trailer that will not fit on the curvy road up to the top of Mount Nebo, you can camp at Lake Dardanelle State Park. If you do not camp, there are some nice cabins to rent from the park or private homes can be rented as well or you can stay at a motel in Dardanelle or Russellville. While at the park, enjoy the wildlife that abounds there. Hike some trails, ride a bike, breathe in the beauty that is everywhere. This park is a must see on anyone's lists of places to visit in Arkansas.

Visitor Center at Mount Nebo

There's a very nice Visitor Center on Mount Nebo and the views that overlook Lake Dardanelle and the Arkansas River are outstanding.

This video done by THV11 takes about 3 minutes to watch and shows some really great views from the top of Mt. Nebo.

There is nothing quite like Mount Nebo anywhere else in Arkansas. The park was built in the 1930's by the CCC and much of the old stone structures still can be seen. This mountain with its flattened top has vistas of the valley below that are breathtaking. The road that winds up to the top of the mountain is narrow and full of switchbacks which are so tight most RV's will not be able to negotiate them. If you have a vehicle longer than about 20 feet, choose a campsite near the foot of the mountain and drive a car to the top.
