South Arkansas Arboretum

A bit hard to locate, but a jewel right in town and worth a visit

Check out the pictures, videos, and information below.

South Arkansas Arboretum

The South Arkansas Arboretum is managed by the South Arkansas Community College in El Dorado. It was established to preserve the unique flora and fauna of the West Gulf Coast Plain, one of the 6 natural divisions of the state of Arkansas. It also provides educational opportunities for the schools and public and an excellent place for joggers and hikers to exercise. This park is right in the middle of an urban area, but has the serenity of a rural country location. This 12-acre woodland is a beautiful place to spend time walking and admiring the quiet space provided for a retreat for the hustle and bustle of daily life.

If you need a campsite while visiting the Arboretum, check out Moro Bay State Park. For a motel, you can find one in El Dorado, Arkansas where the state park is located.

This video, done by the South Arkansas Community College, gives a person an excellent opportunity to see the park entrance and how it is used for educational purposes.  The video last for 7 1/2 minutes.

Above Arlene stands at the entrance of the Arboretum. Below a map for walking trails is seen at the park and a bulletin board with hours and park rules. Also, there is a Pagoda that serves as outdoor educational center and gathering place for weddings or private retreat for the public.
